The things you buy

Went to jb hi-fi today with a very clear purpose, saw something at amazon.com the other day that thrilled me,all the seasons of Good Times on dvd.My wallet from the trip is now $32 lighter than what it was before I went in there and i'm all the happier for it.Watched two episodes last night and the acting was a little nervous being a new show and all, but all the memories came flooding back, especially episodes I have not yet got to.Who could forget the death of James Sr and JJ running an illegal bookie racket, not to mention all those president Ford political jokes.I must actually credit the Shace with getting me onto this show back in the 80's,can't wait to get the next few seasons as they are released here.DYNOMITE!Any shows you have a hankering for, give us your top draws.

I must admit I wasn't a big good times fan. I do remember one episode where JJ (I think) took an IQ test and tried to demonstrate that it was culturally biased but the argument (whether true or not) was really weak and persuaded me the other way. Like Different Strokes it tried to be profound sometimes but was mostly full of naive stereotypes that didn't wash in the decade to follow. And the canned whoops and cheers whenever he said Dynomite! was like the Fonz saying ey! Or Mrs Cunningham saying 'Howard, sit on it!'
Give me 'The facts of Life' or 'Family Ties'anyday!

A couple of years ago, channel seven were repeating family ties and to my surprise they held up really well especially Michael J Fox.

Famly Ties is a perfect 80's time capsule. I saw an episode recently where Mallory was wearing a denim shirt with shoulder pads and Baggies,Priceless.

I wonder how many shows I would have watched if we'd had cable back in the 80's. My watching was dictated by the free to air channels more than my own taste (bad as it is). Goodies was definitely a staple plus any number of crappy American sitcoms. Happy Days was good, I agree Family Ties stands the test of time better than most 80's shows.

When in doubt, MASH.
I watched the first 4 seasons recently but they got a bit boring after that.
Blake 7 first 2 seasons OK for it's embarassingly bad SFX.
You want to see a bad series, try Automan, the tron rippoff or the greatest American Hero.

There were some bad ones, charles in charge comes to mind, threes company was bad although I may have had some 9 year old erections over the blonde,i'm sure John Ritter would have, followed by an immediate soft on when seeing Don Knotts' head!

I don't believe it! The Shirk erecting over a blonde?! I used to get a stiffy for the redhead in Josie and the Pussy Cats, and that was a cartoon.

I do remember the blonde from Threes company was really dumb..no..hang on that was the English version with Gilbert O'Sullivan before he did Robins Nest. Exactly the same scenerio and even the apartment looked the same. And the blonde chick always wore hot pants.
